The second in the series of Punctuation Programme's proposes a joint exhibition of new work, by Lynn Hynd and Laurence Figgis. The presentation will attempt to explore how the languages of flatness and space, destruction and renewal are becoming ‘humanised’ in their respective practices through an implied animism. The playful nature of the event will provide an ideal opportunity to explore the works’ temporal aspect, allowing an idea of ‘deterioration’ to create movement within the static objects, breaking up their stability and weight.

Like a novelist or filmmaker Laurence Figgis utilizes fiction to critically interrogate symbols he has adapted from varied cultural sources. Whereupon a linear meaning often becomes fragmented or obscured as he explores his compulsion towards ‘decaying’ language (both metaphorically and physically). This deconstructive process takes place in a pictorial and textual schema that fetishises the glossy but transient materiality of mass-produced fantasy narratives and corporate literature.

Hynd’s works have advanced out of a focused investigation surrounding the relationship between line and form. Utilising modernist reference points in her monochromatic works of printed, painted, collaged and sculpted elements, she is interested in the interior break-up of the work as line and form become separated and materialized through the creative process.
