This is a love letter to the shop windows I never knew. A dreamy nostalgia of days gone by when curated window displays were a spectacle for all to enjoy. Glasgow’s once-glorious Sauchiehall Street, with its Victorian and Art Deco shopfronts, was a place to pause and gaze at the wonders within.

Today, however, these windows have lost their charm, blending anonymously into the flat rhythm of the streetscape. Empty void units and banal flat-fronted shop windows frame unassuming and uninspiring products. There is no reason to pause and enjoy. The shop window has become devoid of intrigue and spectacle.

The spectacle art of window shopping, once a vibrant part of city life, has faded. The shift to digital shopping, where we browse screens rather than streets, has intrinsically altered how we connect with the city. Will the intrigue of the shop window ever return to places like Sauchiehall Street?
