Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy (2001) is a hierarchical classification of the different levels of thinking. It begins with simple recollection of facts and concepts before developing learning through stages from simple to complex and concrete to abstract.
We propose that, whilst most educators ‘know’ about generative AI, this knowledge is still at the level of Remembering. Before we can start to Apply, Analyse, and Evaluate issues related to learning, teaching, and assessing in a world of GenAI, we need Understanding. In this session, MSA Senior Lecturer Alan Hooper will present his toolkit titled ChatTKT: a model for upskilling staff and their understanding of the GenAI tool ChatGPT by applying Bloom’s revised taxonomy. He will demonstrate how established pedagogical theories and models can be deployed to empower teachers to respond to the disruption of higher education illustrated by ChatGPT.
