This study examines adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) services across five NHS health boards in Scotland, identifying key systemic challenges and opportunities for improvement. Rising demand has placed significant pressure on diagnostic and treatment pathways, with waiting times increasing fourfold and in some cases exceeding ten years. Clinicians report high administrative burdens and limited capacity for innovation, while individuals experience unclear pathways, stigma, and insufficient support during prolonged waiting periods.

Facilitated by the Digital Mental Health Innovation Cluster (DMHIC) and supported by the Digital Health and Care Innovation Centre (DHI), the research draws on service mapping workshops with professionals and people with lived experience, alongside a survey. Findings highlight barriers across the care pathway and the potential for digital interventions - such as asynchronous data collection, pathway visualisation, and improved communication - to enhance efficiency and access. The study underscores the need for a coordinated national strategy and further investment in innovative, needs-based ADHD services.
