A diptych in A3 size presenting Heraclitus’found fragment “πόλεμος πάντων μὲν πατήρ ἐστι / war is the father of all” as a simple, typographic encounter split across two sheets. The work draws on the fragment attributed to Heraclitus not as a historical quotation, but as an active lens through which to consider the present. By placing the ancient Greek beside its English translation, the work confronts the viewer with the instability of meaning as it moves between languages, cultures, and temporalities.
The tensioned space of reading has the original fragment and it’s translation unresolved and in perpetual dialogue, mirroring the way warfare itself circulates through time: persistent, refigured, rhetorically renewed. War is not presented here as spectacle or image, but as a linguistic structure — a force that is named, framed, justified, softened, and obscured through language. The material spareness gestures toward bureaucratic documents, proclamations, and official texts through which violence is often formalised and normalised. In this way, the work considers how language becomes a site where conflict is both revealed and concealed. Rather than offering a fixed theory of conflict, it insists on struggle as a generative condition of sorts where meaning is constantly reframed and contested.
