Abstract: | A residency in July 2024 at Studio Somewhere, housed within the Take Me Somewhere space at Tramway in Glasgow, to investigate Queer Hauntology through disembodied sounds, speculative texts, and vocal performance. This intensive residency provided an environment to explore the physicality of sound processes and refine methodologies. Using sound manipulation techniques and recording devices, tests of auditory pieces were created that built upon previous performance work, while exploring the physicality of spectral presence in the spatiality of sound. This ongoing project intersects sound art, queerness, text, and performance, with a particular focus on Queer Hauntology—a concept I define as one that excavates and exhumes ‘queer matter.’ The approach was informed by Pauline Oliveros' quantum listening techniques, post-digital artefacts and research by the AUDINT group regarding tone, infrasound, texture, and other inaudible frequencies as a means to deepen sonic explorations. | ||||
