Abstract: | The video entitled "Nefarious Practices: The Legend of Maggie Ramsay" is a storytelling performance presented at the 2022 Village Storytelling Festival in Glasgow. This performance, both live and digital, delves into the 18th-century tale of Maggie Ramsay, a herb wife from Airdrie accused of witchcraft, whose spirit is rumoured to linger in the old North Burn. The video is a creation by filmmaker Gaston Welisch and features storyteller Allison, who brings the haunting story of Maggie Ramsay to life. The performance took place before a full audience at Glasgow's CCA and was streamed to viewers globally. In addition to the storytelling, the video includes a post-performance debate with notable panelists Mary Craig, an author and historian, and Claire Mitchell QC, an advocate for the Witches of Scotland campaign. This campaign successfully obtained an official apology and pardon from the Scottish Parliament for individuals historically convicted of witchcraft. The video is filmed on location by the Auld North Burn and is enhanced by the musical accompaniment of fiddler Shannon Stevenson. This video explores themes of folklore, injustice, and the power of storytelling in preserving and reflecting upon the past. | ||||
