Abstract: | This text was commissioned by artists Matthew Benington and Tom Pope for their exhibition and performative lecture 'Almost Nothing But Blue Ground'. Their collaborative project and exhibition focus on the life of Anna Atkins and her photographic book 'Cyanotypes of British and Foreign Ferns, 1853'. My short text aims to explore the place of empire in Atkins' work, the aesthetics of her images and the nature of collaboration in the making of her cyanotypes. | ||||||
