The work comprising Mainly in Sinuosities is the result of a commission from the Edinburgh Art Festival. Curated by Associate Artist Emmie McLuskey, it was part of Channels, a series of commissions for public sites and online as part of the Edinburgh Art Festival Commissions Programme, 2022, that explored and responded to the history of the Edinburgh and Glasgow Union Canal, on the 200th anniversary of its completion.
The work consisted of printed matter, containing archival photographs, newspaper commentaries and found archival text relating to the canal; a map of its flora, made in conjunction with a botanist from the Royal Botanical Gardens of Edinburgh, and an essay exploring the canal's flora, fauna, history and context. There were also five aluminium plaques also containing text from information found during research done at the National Library of Scotland, placed at various points along the canal between Lochrin Basin and Westerhailes.
