This presentation illustrates the strength and values of studio culture within the Glasgow School of Art’s School of Design, championing the importance of a collaborative design community. The talk explores how the movement of skills and ideas within an arts school environment can be empowered to share expertise and broaden disciplines and ultimately extend new knowledge.
Concepts follow a suggestive model as applied by Schön in the ‘reflective practitioner’(1983) and ‘Educating the Reflective Practitioner’, (1987) and considers the implicit values of studio-based education in relation to design education and training.
In a world where the boundaries between the material and the immaterial are increasingly blurred and interwoven- the value of material and making has never been more critical or real in our post digital age.
