Abstract: | Surplus is a presentation of auto-objects, photographic installation and film presented during Glasgow International 2021 within an exhibition, "Home Economics", organised by the curatorial collective Chapter Thirteen, which ran from 11th - 27th June 2021. It reflects upon feminist economic theory and its relation to narratives of gender, race, class and citizenship in contemporary Britain and more specifically in Govan, Glasgow (where the exhibition was held). Primarily concerned with decoding dominant assumptions and representations regarding labour, value and women’s contributions to social and economic health, this body of work cut across mediums, operating within multiple creative registers. | ||||
