Vilnius Academy of Arts invited a contribution to their annual ‘Travelling Letters’ Exhibition. These visuals show a projection of a generative typographic patterns which I designed in collaboration with two colleagues and final-year students from LASALLE College of the Arts. The students were asked to write short statements on the notion of creativity and to produce short video clips to illustrate their thoughts. The font we used was broken down into modular components to allow for the statements to move across the projection screen. A custom-built software was programmed to allow for the spatial disposition (z-axis) of individual letter shapes to be determined by the brightness of the pixels of the video footage beneath. As a result, the letter shapes move back and forth in space depending on the colour values which the script extracts from the video footage. The disfiguration of type is constantly changing, as are the creative capabilities of individuals and societies.
