This presentation and workshop examined and experimented with what artists and performers experience and define as ‘culture’, and how this understanding informs and impacts on creativity. Participants were invited to reflect on the differences and overlaps of personal, family, and national cultures, to consider the question, “who am I” in this international exchange, and what will I keep of what I have brought with me?”

Xnational Xarts Xchange was an international exchange programme hosted at the University of Western Scotland in partnership with the Busan Cultural Foundation, South Korea. Three performance companies from South Korea, Heung (new works interpreting folkloric storytelling, theatrical and musical styles), JDC&Next (experiments with Korean cultural memory and contemporary dance), and All Rounderz (street dance) were in residence in Glasgow and Edinburgh during November and December 2017. At UWS, a series of master classes and mentoring workshops were attended alongside twelve students of Digital Art, Technical Theatre, and Performance. These culminated with a collaborative showcase performance. The exchange was devised and co-ordinated by Trent Kim.
