Abstract: | Transient Luminous is a solo international exhibition comprising 12 paintings and video work with a live exterior projection for the opening and closing night. In this body of work I have considered light, states of becoming and the complexities of the way in which absence might signify. Implicit in this has been an engagement with the moment (Augenblick) and its status of being as undetermined or unfixed. These ideas have been explored through notions of spectrality, moments of emergence and disappearance, concealment and revelation. The light oscillates and moves registering on different levels of conscious/psychic recognition whilst creating strange spatial and temporal possibilities. The exhibition is supported by a catalogue with a foreword: "The Glow of Time: Karen Roulstone’s Transient Luminous" by art critic Peter Suchin (2012) translated into German by Tobias Gingele and published by Coach House Publishing, Toronto, Canada. | ||||
