My work is concerned with diverse light forms and the way in which they create moments which are elusive, mysterious and abstract. I am interested in fugitive forms which are suggestive of fleeting thoughts, spaces of illumination and the ephemeral. I explore the way in which light oscillates and moves, registering on different levels of conscious/psychic recognition whilst creating strange spatial and temporal possibilities. I explore these ideas visually through notions of spectrality, moments of emergence and disappearance, concealment and revelation. My work also unfolds around this engagement with the illumination of ideas through a decisive moment (der Augenblick) and its status as being transient yet full of potential and significance. "Drift", the painting included in the John Moores Painting Prize, was part of a body of work exploring these ideas.

The John Moores Painting Prize 2014 exhibition is noted as being the UK’s best known painting competition and forms a key part of the Liverpool Biennial. The audience for the exhibition extends well beyond academic audiences into the public realm. The John Moores (established 1957) is regarded as presenting “the best contemporary painting from across the UK” and as such makes a long standing, recognised and highly respected contribution to the field.
