was selected take part in the European Competition at International Competition at Go Short 2017 (5th-9th April 2017).Go Short is Holland’s leading Short Film Festival. Go Short is featured on the British Council Key Festival list and I received a British Council Travel Grant and VENTILATOR and was also invited to be part of the the British Council’s Shorts Support Scheme.
The film VENTILATOR is a continuation of my practice assessing the limits, contradictions and potentialities of expressionistic art over the past two years, focused around the incorporation of natural and human landscapes into my work. In previous projects - the Green Man installation 2014 and GREEN HEAD Digital video 2015 - I engaged with central questions of Expressionism. Most notably, these included the role of the ‘natural’ and the ‘man-made’, the divisions between spectacle and expression, and the connection- or lack thereof- between art and pre-historical, religious, observance.Land art, totemic heads, and the repeated emergence and disintegration of masks throughout the piece I invite the audience to engage within the ‘logic of sensation’ I seek to construct (or excavate) in the course of the piece.
