Abstract: | I was commissioned in 2014 by National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh to recreate the performance installation work Real Life Rocky Mountain (first exhibited at CCA Glasgow, 1996) at twice the scale of the original as one of the centrepieces of their Scotland wide survey project, Generation, 25 Years of Contemporary Art in Scotland at ‘Modern 1’, their main HQ on Belford Road. This new iteration occupied the whole top floor of the building and was active for 7 months over the period of the Independence Referendum. It provoked much debate and dialogue, for example I appeared on a ‘referendum special’ edition of the BBC Newsnight programme interviewed by BBC Special Correspondent Alan Little discussing the complex relationships between culture and politics, reflecting an active media/TV presence.

Additional Information: | “GENERATION is a major, nation-wide exhibition programme showcasing some of the best and most significant artists to have emerged from Scotland over the last 25 years. The programme traces the developments in art in Scotland since 1989. It shows the generation of ideas, of experiences, and of world-class art on an unparalleled scale by over 100 artists in more than 60 venues. The artists within GENERATION came to attention whilst working in Scotland, helping to create the vibrant and internationally recognised contemporary art scene that exists here today. The art that has emerged from Scotland during this period is characterised by its diversity, rather than by one particular style or dominant trend. GENERATION offers an opportunity to see art that is innovative, thought- provoking, imaginative, at times beautiful, at others challenging, but always inspiring. GENERATION is delivered as a partnership between the National Galleries of Scotland, Glasgow Life and Creative Scotland and is part of Culture 2014, the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme. Scotland’s Art Revolution: The Maverick Generation I had various discussions with Director Bill MacLeod on this BBC Documentary as it was developing and was interviewed by Kirsty Wark for this 2014 BBC Film analysing the Generation, 25 Years of Contemporary Art in Scotland, series of exhibitions and events in Scotland throughout 2014 The full interview with Kirsty Wark from which my contribution to the programme was taken can still be viewed here: (16 min). http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/2TJNHYMG0fnf7957bm48fkC/generation-ross-sinclair
