Abstract: | This chapter proposes an original iconographical interpretation for the decoration of the fountain at Linlithgow Palace, built by James V in the 1530s. It suggests the influence of the legend of Melusine on the stonework as a way to visually remind his French wife Mary of Guise of her duties and obligations as Queen, and warn her against excessive independence. | |||||||||
