‘You Are of Vital Importance’ is a book of prose fiction marked by common preoccupations with the construction of character, professional personas, communication knots and the social economies of art making. Multiple tones, approaches and different conditions of art writing are employed to examine the proximity and distance between characters, communities and objects.

There is an insistence on an intensity and quality of attention that suspends traditional pay-offs and recuperations of storytelling. The pieces experiment with constraints and episodic structures in order to defy plot and meet the reader’s expectations imaginatively through form.
