Abstract: | This is an upcoming project currently progressing through application for AHRC funding by Prof. Craig Richardson at the University of Northumbria and as such should perhaps be treated in confidence at the moment. Through the commissioning and installation of site-specific artworks by 3 artists, the project is intended to facilitate practical research and public engagement with unique heritage sites in Scotland’s West Lothian region in specific relation to John Latham and the Artist Placement Group. It’s focus is distinctive landforms - Derelict ‘bings’ comprised of masses of shale (a 19th Century by-product of the paraffin industry). These landforms were conceptualized in 1976 as ‘monumental process sculptures’ as documented in Artist Placement Group archives in Tate Britain by the conceptual English Artist John Latham (1921-2006) Partially preserved as scheduled monuments these sites are also in their entirety the largest UK based sited artwork. | ||||
