Abstract:

I delivered a twenty-minute paper and participated in a panel discussion at the above event.

The literary influences on Zoe William's practice are many, including the erotic and transgressive writings of George Bataille; fables and fairytales and contemporary magical realism. To discuss these references, Zoe will be joined by artist, writer and lecturer at Glasgow School of Art, Laurence Figgis who contributed a specially commissioned text to the publication, Pearlescence and Patience; a short fiction which parallels the imagery and concerns of the installation. In addition, we are very pleased to be joined by Professor David Punter from The University of Bristol who will contribute insights from his own specialist areas of research which include the gothic, the uncanny, literature and psychoanalysis.
