Is there any more effective way to consider the phenomenon Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Glasgow School of Art building than at an oblique angle? There is so much to say about this building, and so many ways of recounting what it was and what it did and how it did it – it’s such a great building that there are no foursquare, definitive and straightforward descriptions of it… Yet so much has been said about it that confuses what it might be in the future , what is conceivable, practical and achievable. Is it indeed possible or desirable to untangle our emotions from its great past to create a great future for it?
