Dr Lynsey Calder is a Research Fellow in Regenerative and Creative Practice (Craft and Biomaterials) with GSA Rural Lab at The Glasgow School of Art. A textile designer, maker, researcher, and educator, her work explores material, colour and innovation across craft, textiles and novel material responses. Her AHRC-funded, practice-based PhD at Heriot-Watt University examined how optical monochromatic pattern affects perceptions of the female form, combining textile design, perception studies and body image research.
Since joining GSA in 2015, she has progressed from Print and Dye Technician to Technical Team Leader and Technical Manager, shaping technical learning, leading cross-disciplinary teams and embedding sustainable, health-conscious approaches to making. Alongside this, she maintains an active research practice focused on the legacy of Bernat Klein, serving as a trustee of The Bernat Klein Foundation, leading projects such as Deconstructing Klein, and reinterpreting archival printed textiles through contemporary technologies and regenerative, craft-led methods.
Lynsey's research interests are based in textiles, materiality, craft and Bernat Klein.
With a focus on promoting the community benefits of natural materials and collaborative making.
