In Conversation: Graham Lister and Fraser Whiting

Fragments and False Starts was a body of practice-based research which was more than a year in the making. It was funded by Creative Scotland which allowed for a new publication to be brought together. An ‘in conversation’ public event took placed mid way through the exhibition run.

It was a public event, advertised through the House for an Art Lover/ Studio Pavilion social media channels. It took the form of a short reading by myself and the artist Fraser Whiting, who has been commissioned to make a new text for the Fragments and False Starts publication.

The event was well-attended – reaching a cross section of artists, educators and, crucially individuals from various Widening Participation-eligible categories who were attending GSA portfolio courses.

The event allowed for the rationale for the exhibition and new publication to be explored, and it also facilitated ongoing engagement with the ways that the studio exists at the heart of contemporary art education. It gave rise to further pedagogical questions which will be addressed in future research projects.
