1. THIS IS A CHORD..
2. THIS IS ANOTHER..
3. THIS IS A THIRD..
* NOW FORM A BAND..
The BAND is called THETHREECHORDS. There can be 5–30 PLAYERS in the BAND. There are 2 BAND LEADERS,
Ross Sinclair (RS) and Siôn Parkinson (SP)
The aim is this:
Form a band and improvise together a raucous song, based on 3 chords only and lasting approximately 15 minutes, and which can be performed while walking through a building between several floors. The piece STARTS at the top floor (5th) and STOPS at, or near, the bottom floor (1st).
What you’ll need:
A musical ratchet or clacker, a bunch of 10–20 small, portable percussion instruments, plus several guitars or guitar-like instruments (acoustic or semi-amplified, with shoulder straps) all tuned to open G (1st, capo on 2nd fret = A; 2nd, capo on 4th fret = B. 3rd; capo on 9th fret = E). And some plectrums.
Other stuff:
3 sets of 10 T-shirts, each with the name of the band, THETHREECHORDS, printed in black. The 3 sets are distinguished by the name of one of 3 chords printed in red: E, A, B.
Overview:
A room with 30 chairs are arranged in a circle. On each chair is a T-shirt printed with the names of one of three chords: A, E, or B.
Each member of the BAND finds a place within the circle (wherever, it doesn’t matter), picks up the T-shirt from their chair and puts it on over their clothes.
In the middle of the circle gathered together is a selection of percussion and stringed, guitar-like instruments which are labelled with the name of the chord to which it is tuned.
The BAND are invited to come up to the table in groups -- first the Es, then the As, then the Bs -- and select an instrument to play, whichever they touch first (there might be a chance to change instruments later) before quickly returning to their place in the circle. Now...
