This text emerged from the 'Correspondence' research group of 2019-2020, co-convened by Professor Gemma Blackshaw and Professor Rebecca Fortnum. The group was developed to explore creative research methods that facilitate innovative forms of art historical research.
 
The short text work brings two pieces of poetry together, James Clerk Maxwell ‘Lectures to Women on Physical Science’, 1882 and Margaret Tait’s ‘Light’, 1958. The text work is positioned alongside a photograph of William Thomson’s marine mirror galvanometer 1850-1900, from the Science Museum Group Collection.

In the work a ‘conversation’ is enacted between Tait and Maxwell.
