Abstract:

A book chapter (c. 9000 words) considering the artist and GSA graduate Joan Eardley as a writer, focussing on private letters and correspondence written by the artist to her peers, friends and lovers. The text forms part of the two-part anthology "All Becomes Art", new pieces of writing submitted in response to the paintings and drawings of Joan Eardley for an anthology to celebrate the centenary of her birth. It continues my research into writing by artists in Scotland, a concern which spans much of my research activity.
