Tubes Artist Gallery Magazine (TAG#7)
& BEEP 2020 Publication – Elysium Gallery
Tubes Artist Gallery Magazine (TAG#7), September 2020
https://tubesartistsgallery.co.uk/the-beep-2020-painting-biennial-catalogue/
This publication was created as a reflection on the group exhibition BEEP 2020 by Painters Tubes magazine. Painters Tubes create publications as showcases of events and of selected artist’s work. Issue #7 was devoted to artists included in BEEP 2020. Documentation of the work of each contributing artist was accompanied by selections of artist statements and new writings.
Launched in 2012, BEEP (Bi-Ennial Exhibition of Painting) is a contemporary painting prize bringing together artists from all over the world. Taking place every 2 years, Beep supports imaginative and vibrant practice in contemporary painting.
Yellow Fence (Diamonds) was accompanied by the following extract from an artist statement:
‘…. Over recent years, my work has been focused on how individuals understand their physical surroundings, particularly with reference to barrier materials, notions of blockage and of movement in, and between, spaces. Using painting processes and various materialities of painting to ‘think through’ repeated patterns and gestures, the architectures that are part of everyday spatialisations are broken down and distilled, so that they can be refocused on. Even more pertinent in the current global situation perhaps, my work seeks to foreground ideas connected with boundaries and the ways that we, as individuals and societies, create berries to curb physical interactions. The abstracted aesthetic forms of fencing materials are at once beautiful in terms of their interconnections but also pint toward ideas of inside / outside, order, control and separation.’ (Graham Lister, TAG #7, p 23)
Supporting TAG#7 is the official BEEP2020 Catalogue.
