'Nostalgia isn't what it used to be', printed essay for Alexis Soul Gray's exhibition, 'Memory Play' at Bo Lee and Workman Gallery in January/February 2025.
The essay focuses on collage as a methodology to perform nostalgia within Soul Gray's work and suggests painting as a DeLorean, in perpetual return to its legacies.
The essay was published online and in print form - in a booklet designed by Lucy Harbut.
Following a discussion with the artist, Alexis Soul Gray at Glasgow School of Art in 2024, I was invited to write a text for her then upcoming exhibition, Memory Play at Bo Lee and Workman gallery - January 2025. The text connected to ideas from within my own research with regard to collage and accumulation. The text was published by Bo Lee Workman online and in a small foldout publication (designed by Lucy Harbut) on 17 January 2025.
