'Made You Look', Instant Whip – Fraser Taylor, Textiles and Papers 1977-87, Helena Britt and Panel (eds.), 2024, Glasgow, pp 46-49

Catalogue essay focusing on Fraser Taylor’s practice of ‘drawing into textiles’, his studio activity and the processes of abstraction which he engages in.

This text was commissioned by Fraser Taylor, Helena Britt and Panel to be part of the publication to accompany the retrospective and archival exhibition, Instant Whip, at the Reid Gallery in April 2024.

Structured around a conversation and a studio visit in August 2023, the text explored the idea of looking within Taylor’s practice. It functioned as a portrait of the artist, in terms of considering how he used and continues to use abstracted motifs throughout his process; looking back to previous paintings, collages and textiles to develop new work.
