Edited by Carol Elkovich, during her tenure as a Fulklbright Distinguished Scholar at the Glagsow School of Art, 'Pedagogy of Place' brings together practitioners from the School of Fine Art, The Macintosh School of Architecture and the School of Design to allow a multiplicity of approaches to place to occur. Each practitioner was asked to contribute a set of instructions that would allow a a kaleidoscope of disciplinary perspectives and bespoke model of professional praxis to constitute a manual of approach to place.

My action submitted for the book is as follows:

Action
• Get an Ordnance Survey Map (it does not need to be a recent one)
Look at the names of the places that interest you. Where are they situated?
Peel back the layers of history and consider the place in terms of Habitation, Purpose and Geography. Who has been here before you?
• Travel there by foot, carrying only what your body can hold.
• Carry with you water and food, means to set up a temporary shelter, a notebook and a pencil and a camera and some film. Carry with you only what you need to experience the place and nothing else. A compass is required to find your way back home.
• Spend time in the place and explore it. Sleep on the ground. See and listen. Make work as you go along.
• Keep notes.
• Save one exposure in the camera, and use it only when you decide to make your way back.
Look one more time and make the final picture.
• Never return here.
