Abstract:

Commissioned by the Parenthesis - the journal of the Fine Press Book Association - this review considers 'Space as Language: The Properties of Typographic Space' by design academic Will Hill. The book was published in August 2023 by Cambridge University Press as part of their Imprints editions.

The review reflected upon the main arguments within the book, including the call to recognise essential differences between the traditions of lettering and typography. The review recognised the value of Hill's contribution to students and scholars working in the fields of graphic design history.
