"Tell me" (1 and 2) is the first project with children, developed under the umbrella of D4CR Scottish and French local chapters as part of the pump priming activities undertaken by the international and interdisciplinary network for the research on children and clothing (IN2FROCC). Based on original methods combining visual analysis and story telling, this project captures children's creative and oral responses to their self- and peer-identification through clothing, this project is based on the interactions between the “Amis-habits” (frocks-friends) of primary schools around the world (Scotland, France and China, children aged 6 (tell me 1) and 8 (tell me 2). Undertaken within an active pedagogy framework, the project is child-led, allowing a direct access to children's interpretation and aiming towards significant unfiltered outputs. The focus on children’s answers contribute to our understanding of children’s interactions with clothing.
The outcome of Tell me 1 is presented in a curated online exhibition where a wide audience can access the work of 2 groups of 6 to 7 years old children, one in Scotland (UK) and one in the suburb of Paris (France), who have been sharing on this project between January and April 2022. , this child-centred pilot project is the first chapter of this Amis-habits (frocks-friends) story.
The podcast captures the management, methods and impact of Tell me in a discussion between the three project investigators.
"What can children tell us through their interactions with everyday clothes? And what can they learn about themselves and others through clothing? Why and how can young people inspire a more ethical fashion industry driven by D4CR principles? It takes no less than three experts to address these questions through the analysis of collaborative experiences of co-creation with children. Let’s embark into their journey and explore with us the learning power of clothes!
