Abstract:

In September and October 2022 Goldsmiths’ Fair celebrated 40 years as the primary destination for contemporary silver and fine jewellery.

“Selected by a panel of experts, the 2022 Goldsmiths' Fair brings together 136 of the UK’s most extraordinary silversmiths and goldsmiths. From wire work to 3D printing, traditional goldsmithing to intricate engraving, the 40th anniversary exhibitors combine ancient techniques with modern day technologies”.

This year was the 17th year I had exhibited at Goldsmiths' Fair (2004-2019 & 2022)

Each year there are prizes presented for new work. I was delighted to be awarded the Trade Warden Award for my Vortex Series work using titanium, silver, platinum and gold.

A number of public talks and lecture series are held over the course of the two week exhibition. Journalist and curator Corinne Julius interviewed myself and Susan Cross as we remembered and reflected on the huge impact that the late Dorothy Hogg MBE had on our respective work as well as education of contemporary jewellery and silversmithing in the UK and beyond.

In addition to the Fair, the Goldsmiths’ Company Modern Jewellery Collection curated an exhibition celebrating 40 years of the Fair. I was delighted to be selected for the “40 years, 40 makers” exhibition which was curated by Dr Dora Thornton and Dr Frances Parton. I was recently appointed as the specialist Jewellery Adviser to the Contemporary Craft Committee of the Goldsmiths’ Company collection which is a role I am thoroughly enjoying.

My own work, from a practical hands on approach undertaken in my workshop, was also shown as part of a series of five short films which were commissioned for the 2022 edition of the exhibition. This film can be seen here -
