Abstract:

During the COVID-19 pandemic the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra’ have been meeting weekly for their ongoing project ‘Flattening the Curve’ – comprised of over 80 international artists who have collaboratively been exploring digital improvisation. Flattening the curve is led by Raymond MacDonald (GIO and ECA) and Ross Birrell (GSA) who discuss here the technological challenges and affordances of ensemble improvising over Zoom with the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra and outline theoretical contexts of entanglement and attunement informed by a reading of Barad, Latour, Morton, and Serres.
