Abstract: | Double screen colour video installation + sound 'Contest' (noun and verb): In a dual performance-to-(handheld) camera, male and female hands each grip, hold onto and move along a long pole. A balancing act, moving from the ends of the bar to meet and touch in the middle and move apart repeatedly. Tilting both towards/against each other and away again, for as long as physically possible. The joint endeavour is both a collaboration and a struggle. Our research considers the relationship between sculpture and performance and this work can be directly related to 'Handheld' 2019 [NB: see Radar 6628] and our earlier use of a scaffolding bar in 'A Body Parts', (Glasgow International, 2005) where a revolving length of scaffolding circumnavigates a room, at neck height @ 4 rpm. |
