Abstract:

An essay exploring aspects of the history of the horse as sign and metaphor within culture, and the history of equine sculptures. Using concepts such as 'cultural capital' and the 'screen of signs' the essay explores some of the ways in which The Kelpies function as signifiers within a complex field of representation.
