A Trilogy is the final exhibition in the series, The Colours Exhibitions:
The Colour Blue Black & White and The Red. This curatorial art project
takes place at the Abadi Art Space in New Delhi. It is composed of four
exhibitions: The Colour Blue; Black and White; and The Red; and A Trilogy.
A trilogy is collection of artworks from the three colours exhibitions. It is
designed as form of cultural exchange between the United Kingdom and
India. The aim is to encourage a dialogue between the two countries related
to colours, their cultural beliefs, multiple associations and meanings. From
each of the colours exhibitions a mix of artists from the UK and India have
been selected, with a total of four British and three Indian artists.
The exhibition discourse has three main branches. The selected UK-based
artists explore issues of multiculturalism, ethnicity and family, through works
that look at skin colour. Featured Indian artists meanwhile showcase art
projects and public interventions that deal with colours as way to unpack a
social issue such as human waste, colonialism, class and gender.
Thirdly the exhibitions explore curatorial and art practices and blend them
together with contemporary art and social issues. The proposed exercise is to
use the gallery space as a studio bringing from each exhibition an installation
to create a three-dimensional picture. In this manner, the art works displayed
in the exhibition are the materials that the curator uses to create an exhibition
that is a picture in itself. The viewer may or may not be aware of being inside
a picture but can interact within the space, the exhibition and the colours.
