| Abstract: | In April 2025, the Reading Landscape Research group at GSA held an exhibition at the Annex Gallery at GSA. The exhibition ran between 22nd April and 16th May 2025. This exhibition featured the work of 15 members of Reading Landscape and other collaborators. This artefact, Lilia, an artist book, was included in the exhibition due to its connection to nature and the Scottish landscape. It explores the history of the Roman's occupation in Scotland and the defensive mechanisms they implemented to protect the Antonine Wall from invading Scots armies. It documents the remains of a series of defensive pits, dug deep into the ground in a quincunx pattern, filled with sharpened stakes and covered with branches and grass to disguise the danger beneath. It is effectively the razor wire equivalent of Roman warfare. "Practicing Landscape: Field Notes is the title of an exhibition presented at Annex Gallery, in the Stow Building of Glasgow School of Art. Gallery coordinator, James Hutchinson invited members of Reading Landscape to create an exhibition, in discussion with the GSA Garden Society, which would respond to the gallery’s proximity and relationship to the building’s recently developed garden and grounds". |
