| Abstract: | Let it Come Down, a two-person exhibition featuring works by Gemma Dagger and Matthew Arthur Williams at Stallan-Brand, 80 Nicholson St Glasgow G5 9ER. The show comprises of photographic works from both artists showing with gallery duo, Shapeero-Murray. Let it Come Down conjures a world unfixed and unmoored. In the Tibetan Book of the Dead, the ‘bardo’ is described as a transitional state between death and rebirth. Drawing loosely on this dreamlike condition, Dagger and Williams approach landscape as a threshold between sequences of time and states of mind. In this survey of photographic stills, luminous daylight and the vacant horizon lines of Scottish Borders rest against somnambulant monochrome imaginings — rural idylls of forests and walled gardens, bluebells and branches. What happens above is not always echoed below; time rushes in. Let it Come Down inhabits the space in between. |
