Rekindling (for Crae) is a collage of listening and trawling for recollections of emotions within archival interviews and the emotional arc of activism. It is a meditation on hope after defeat. The piece travels through the waves, rips, currents, ebbs and flows of turning tides, and is carried by voices spanning lifetimes of commitment to building something better. Accompanying them the music is inspired by and composed from a recording of a young child’s first exploration of a piano.

The spoken excerpts are all from the Women in Communism interview series recorded by Neil Rafeek held at the National Library Scotland’s sound archive.
