Improving the mental health of children and young people (CYP) is a major global public health challenge. Digital tools can support CYP mental health within a broader care system. Professionals play a crucial role in promoting these tools, but challenges persist. This report summarises a knowledge exchange session held in 2024 with members of the Aye Mind Digital Collaborative (DC) network, led by the Mental Health Improvement Team at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. The session was part of a research project exploring approaches to help professionals find, evaluate, and recommend digital mental health tools for CYP. Fourteen DC members participated, representing health and social care, youth work, and the third sector. Two overarching themes were identified: Trust and Credibility and Quality Assurance, Validation and Evaluation. Building on these themes, the report outlines implications for balancing recommendations with risk, raising directory awareness, involving CYP in endorsement, promoting validation, ensuring transparency in research and provider credentials, addressing privacy, enabling proportionate evaluation, and supporting professional training. These initial insights will inform future stages of the research project, including a rapid review of existing literature on the topic and engagements with CYP.
