Abstract:

This paper examines the ongoing utility of ‘biographical’ approaches to things, objects and places for heritage and museum practices, particularly when we think about how material culture mediates people’s experience of placemaking and community building. It draws primarily on the work of Janet Hoskins and the enduring legacy of her 1998 volume Biographical Objects, in the 25th year of its publication.
