Beginning with Yvonne Rainers's score for 'Trio A' as a point of departure, this performative talk enacts Frasers "speaking with" methodology to examine and perform refusal as a method for feminist research and creative practices. Utilising the score, correspondence, and autofiction as forms of practice this presentation reflects on how artists come close with care to "speak with" practices, materials and subjectivities in order to enact refusal as method within art making and writing.

The symposium explores the creative contributions of
women, past and present, situating them within the
context of current artistic practice, writing, and thinking.

Feminist Histories of the Future. Contributions from Anne-Marie Copestake, Dr Karen Di Franco, Prof Rebecca Fortnum, Dr Marita Fraser, Dr Marianne Greated and Dr Katarina Rankovic. It aims to recover and celebrate the impact of women’s practices and emphasizes the importance of feminist, arts-based research methods. This event stimulated debate and idea sharing on how
historical and contemporary voices can connect through creative research and draws together artists, curators,
writers, and scholars to delve into women’s creative legacies. The symposium brings together various methods of
knowledge formation, including, fictioning, speculation, correspondence, autotheory, oral history, archival,
performance, material and visual practices. This event is supported by Glasgow School of Art and Falkirk Council.
