Biography

The Brooch as a Form of Communication in Contemporary Jewellery
My practice as a contemporary jeweller serves as the foundation of my research at the Glasgow School of Art. Through reflection on previous research plans and feedback, I have reassessed my research interests and their integration into my creative practice. While my interests are varied, the brooch remains a constant focus in my work. The brooch, as one of the most outward-facing forms of jewellery, offers a unique lens through which to explore themes of communication, narrative, and materiality in contemporary jewellery.
By positioning the brooch as both an artistic and communicative object, this research seeks to deepen the understanding of jewellery’s role in contemporary discourse. The integration of historical perspectives, material exploration, and collaborative practice contributes to a broader conversation on how jewellery functions beyond adornment—as a medium for engagement, narrative, and social exchange.
