Alan is an architect and educator with extensive experience in academia and
professional practice. Appointed Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer at the Mackintosh School of Architecture/Glasgow School of Art in 2008, Alan's
contributions extend globally, representing Scotland at the 2014 Venice Biennale and serving as Visiting Professor at Guangzhou University, China, investigating urban development. Beyond academia, Alan actively engages with architectural discourse, serving as a guest critic, member of the GIA practice awards panel, and contributor to architectural journals. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has participated in various architecture and design forums, including Architecture and Design Scotland's
Design Forum and Glasgow's Urban Design Panel. Alan's current research interests focus on architecture and research beyond the city, and the challenges and opportunities of generative AI in higher education. A life-long learner Alan completed a Master of Education degree in 2024.
