Patrick Macklin is Head of Department for Interior Design and Programme Leader (PL) for the Masters in the subject – which he established at GSA in 2011.
Alongside his academic career Patrick is a design practitioner and consultant.
In 1996 he co-founded Lapland, a confederation of designers and artists working with the multiple and edition. Lapland exhibited at The British Council, Edinburgh; The Lighthouse, Centre for Architecture, Design and The City, Glasgow; Tramway, Glasgow; Made in Glasgow, Brussels; and Primavera del Disseñy, Barcelona.

In 2003 he established the design studio Frozen River working mainly with clients in the arts and the public sector. Frozen River has shown work in Glasgow, CCA; Belfast, Queens University (DRHA 2009); St Étienne International Design Biennial (2010); Praxis & Poetics at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts, Newcastle (2013).
He has lectured in Singapore and Beijing, and contributed to academic panels in the Gulf and South Asia. International conferences including 'Heima' at ISSTC, Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Dún Laoghaire; Praxis & Poetics at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts, Newcastle (2013) and 'Flat Share' at DesignEd Asia 'Spirit of Place in Design Education', Hong Kong Poly U.
His research Interests are currently focused on the urban interior, with particular reference to Glasgow and Singapore, and how city spaces are represented in both their form and content, and as spectacular cultural phenomena.
Supervisory interests are primarily focused on the nature, quality and value of the urban interior and in particular through diverse means of representation.
