Research Profile
Angela is a design researcher based in the Glasgow School of Art’s Highland Campus working to develop and deliver inclusive and participatory design approaches in the area of Digital Health and Care. Originally from the Shetland Isles, she has a particular interest in working in remote and rural contexts.
With an expertise in co-design and visualisation of complex systems, her current role involves applying design innovation approaches and visual methods to engage people in rethinking current health and social care challenges. With an expertise in co-design and visualisation of complex systems, her current role involves applying design innovation approaches and visual methods to engage people in rethinking current health and social care challenges. Through her work she has undertaken research on a variety of projects such as Nursing Records and Open Innovation which explored the challenges of record keeping and considered new ways of keeping nursing records that are accessible and valuable; Ritual Respect which explored emotional support for women around miscarriage; and fostered a research interest in the role of ethics in design research through developing a project entitled Ethics by Design which aimed to explore and make visible the implicit ethical considerations underpinning the ethical practices within design research and argues the importance of balancing risk with creativity in order to innovate in a complex contexts such as healthcare.
