This work highlights my fascination with the transformative potential of both 'precious and non-precious' materials and merging traditional techniques with innovative approaches. Seeking to replicate the fluidity of a continuous line drawing with a ribbon of 'thread’, and controlling the rippling effect to generate visual movement. The work combines techniques in 'filigree-wire’ made possible by the use of laser technology and many years of honing fine jewellery-making skills. The visual effect, a signature of my work, directly incorporates the golden hues of Tennents Lager [a continuous thread is hand cut from a single can] interlaced with platinum and gold to create a changing colour optical illusion. Material boundaries are blurred, elemental hierarchies erased, and questions about sustainability, heritage, and what exactly constitutes contemporary jewellery in Scotland are raised. These elements contribute to ongoing conversations within contemporary jewellery, materiality and the redefinition of value.
