Abstract: | Bernat Klein is an internationally renowned textile designer and colour consultant. The international influence of Klein's work was discussed by Vogue in 1964 as follows: 'Bernat Klein who in five years has revolutionised traditional English fabrics to win them new recognition abroad'. Klein's distinctive approach to colour was a prime factor in generating his international success as a designer of textiles for both fashion and interiors. National Museums Scotland acquired the Bernat Klein Collection in 2010. In this paper, objects from this extensive Collection will be used to explore Klein’s work for a range of interiors. It will reveal that his designs were integrally linked with specific local, UK and international contexts. These places and spaces were interconnected to everything from his initial design ideas, to their development and production. | ||||||
